The furthest rental property is a not even a one minute walk from our house - are tenants are also our neighbours. We take care of all of the garden maintenance during the growing months and provide shovels and salt for the winter.
The common areas of the houses come either completely or mostly furnished, and are at least partly decorated – the look is usually on the comfortable side of respectable, with a strong note of Ikea.
There are plenty of houses available for students who just want a room for their stuff in a house with seven other people.
We’re looking for tenants who want a proper home in a real neighbourhood while at school: a real house in which everyone has a nice bedroom and shares life in the kitchen, living and dining rooms.
We bought our first house together when we moved to Westdale in 1999. Two years later, we moved to a house down the street and were confronted with the prospect of our old house being purchased by absentee landlords and allowed to deteriorate; instead, we decided to rent it out ourselves.
Barclay West Properties has grown as we bought other nearby rental properties on our street, improved their livability, and then rented them carefully to students who stay, ideally, for two or three years (second to fourth year).
